Mauve is arguably the most underrated lip color. It’s not quite nude, but it isn’t bold either, and it’s especially perfect for the winter months. I love the plummy undertones in these lipsticks, which are often marketed as “dusty rose” or “soft lilac.” Of course, the shade names and colors vary, but I think they’re all beautiful. Here are some of my favorite mauve-toned liquid lipsticks.
Perhaps the most iconic mauve lip is Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina. The Stila liquid lipsticks apply thin, like paint, then dry matte and don’t transfer. It feels dry on the lips, but it doesn’t get crusty or difficult to re-apply throughout the day. I think Patina would suit a number of skin tones.
I love the Maybelline Superstay Matte Lip Ink formula. It’s my favorite liquid lipstick formula, which is sort of crazy because it’s so affordable. These lipsticks are comfortable, matte and totally transfer proof, but they don’t look or feel dry. The color “Lover,” which is pictured here, was sent to me for testing, but I actually purchased another Maybelline Superstay Matte Lip Ink myself. I’ll probably buy more, too, eventually. I couldn’t speak more highly of the formula! It smells sweet, almost like frosting, which all Maybelline lipsticks do. I don’t love the strong smell, but it’s a small price to pay for the beautiful product.
The Milani Amore Matte Lip Creme lipsticks were some of the first drugstore liquid lipsticks that became popular. The formula is actually similar to that of the Stila liquid lipsticks: matte, transfer-proof, and dry, but not too crusty or flaky. The color Adorable is more nude than plum, and very neutral.
What are your favorite mauve lipsticks? I like wearing all of these lipsticks on their own, or layered with gloss. Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Bloglovin’ and drop by again soon!
