The Rimmel Stay Matte Primer isn’t new on the scene. In fact, it’s a bit of a drugstore classic. The entire Rimmel Stay Matte line is generally respected (the Rimmel Stay Matte powder, which I have never tried, is a staple for many people). I have repurchased the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer, because in terms of bang-for-your-buck, it just works.
The Rimmel Stay Matte Primer isn’t “multi-purpose.” Truly, it has one job, and it does it– it just helps control oil. Obviously, if you have dry skin, this probably isn’t for you. I like wearing this primer with a hydrating, luminous foundation, because the primer controls oily shine, and the foundation adds dewy shine (if that makes sense). If I think my skin is going to get really oily, I sometimes pair this primer with a heavy duty powder. If you want to go ultra matte on a budget, this primer will do the trick.
Even though this primer isn’t a holy grail favorite, I do think it works. I like the consistency. Even though it mattifies your skin instantly, it still feels sort of like a lotion when you smooth it on. It doesn’t irritate my skin or break it out, and it’s a great starter product for somebody interested in experimenting with different primers.
