I love a good drugstore concealer. I tend to be a little heavy-handed with my concealer (both in terms of application and my never-ending desire to purchase just one more concealer) so a budget buy is something I love discovering. The Wet n Wild Photo […]
Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer has blown up the internet over the past year, and first things first: I’m a believer. I use concealer almost every single day, but nothing compares to the Tarte Shape Tape for me.
I have two colors in this concealer, one that matches my skin tone and one that is a little lighter (for when I want a highlighted effect.) I use them both regularly, often mixing them, and this concealer comes in a variety of shades, so chances are you will find your match.
What makes it so great? First of all, for a high-end concealer, it rings up at $24, which is a good price. Especially considering that you get a lot of product, and just a little goes a long way. I put three dots of the concealer under each eye, and that’s plenty. It covers my eyes and my lids, and it makes a great eyeshadow primer.
This concealer is super full coverage, matte (but comfortable) and lightweight. The only con (which isn’t really a con) is that it’s always sold out at Ulta, which is the only store that carries it (but you can also find it on the Tarte website).
I’m swooning for the Tarte Shape Tape, and I doubt I’ll ever be married to another concealer like this one. What is your favorite concealer? Be sure to follow my blog on Bloglovin’ and check out my Instagram.
I was introduced to Bare Minerals a little over a year ago, when I started using the bareSkin Serum foundation. That foundation was my first foundation-love, and I’m thinking about returning to it sometime soon. Because I loved that foundation, I also tried out the bareMinerals Complexion […]
A smooth, crease-free under-eye area is the makeup lover’s dream. I’m not sure that completely crease-free concealer beneath the eye is possible, but hey, we can always strive for perfection. A common technique to perfect & protect concealer for bright eyes all day long is […]
I’m a bit of a concealer hoarder, I’ll admit. Concealer is the backbone of every makeup look, whether I’m only wearing a little makeup or a lot. Concealer can be used to cover blemishes, dark circles, scars, discoloration, and even to highlight. Here are the pros and cons of my drugstore vs. high end concealers.
M.A.C. Pro Longwear Concealer: This concealer is a recent purchase, but it is already a favorite. I love this concealer because it doesn’t crease under my eyes, and it feels rich and creamy yet lightweight. It wears beautifully on my skin all day long, weather on the thin skin of my eyes, around my nose, or on my cheeks. It never looks (or feels) like makeup.
bareMinerals bareSkin concealer: I wasn’t sure about this one when I first bought it, but it has really grown on me. It has a true liquid consistency, but it is very lightweight. It is not the fullest coverage concealer, but the formula gives my eyes a brightening effect if I set it with the e.l.f. HD undereye setting powder immediately after applying. My favorite use for this concealer, though, is to cover discoloration and blemishes on my face. It blends beautifully into the skin and looks very natural.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Concealer: I love Anastasia Beverly Hills. I think that the brand offers luxury products at a reasonable price, and when I saw that they had released a concealer I couldn’t resist picking it up. According to the website, this concealer can be worn all over as a foundation, but I have yet to try that. It is the fullest coverage concealer I have ever used, and it has a very unique texture. It is a cream concealer, but at the same time it feels unusually wet. It creases minimally under my eyes. The best part of this concealer is that it’s heavy duty coverage stays put all day long.
NYX HD Concealer: I think I went through my first bottle of this concealer in just a few weeks, because I used it so often. This creamy concealer is blendable and affordable.I like using it under my eyes and to highlight, but I find that it cakes up after a few hours of wear.
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer: This ever-popular concealer is famous thanks to its unique applicator. Twist the bottle and product comes out of a sponge on top, which you dab onto the skin and blend. This concealer is easy to use, and I like it under my eyes as well as to highlight. It does crease (most concealers do) but it doesn’t cake up much and overall I think it is a very good product.
And the winner is . . .
High end concealers definitely beat out the drugstore products. While sometimes drugstore products can hold a candle to prestige brands, I think that with foundation and concealer the competition is stiff. All of these concealers look good immediately after application, but the higher end products wear better throughout the day.
