Toners noticeably improve my skin– that is, if I’m using the right toner. I’ve used different toners on-and-of over the years. Using some sort of toning treatment helps to keep my acne at bay, but if it’s a strong acne treatment it can irritate my […]

The youthful follies of foundation-collecting have given way (ever so slightly) to the adult pastime of skincare. Basically, I’ve discovered that having great skin is better than covering mediocre skin with makeup. Unfortunately, perfect skin (or at least exceptional skin) doesn’t happen without a considerable […]
I may only be 22, but with every passing year I care a little more about my skin. Granted, I don’t have the high school acne situation I once did (thank God), nor do I have wrinkles, but I’d be hard pressed to find a day when my skin is blemish-free and bright.
I’ve been incorporating a few new products into my routine, like the Pixi Glow Tonic and Dickinson’s Witch Hazel. Of course, there are also perennial favorites (I’m pretty devoted to the Aztec Secret mask). As of late, I’ve had a few staples in my routine. Of course, I always cleanse, tone, and moisturize, but there have been a few extras that I consider my current skincare favorites.
The Ordinary Retinoid 2%: About a year ago, I decided that I wanted to incorporate some preventative anti-aging into my skincare routine. This might seem ridiculous (especially for a girl who wears sunscreen religiously) but I did a little research and found out that retinoids have lots of benefits for a 20-some like me, whether skin is prematurely aging or acne-prone. And thanks to The Ordinary, you can get quality product at a reasonable price.
Freeman Avocado & Oatmeal Clay Mask: This mask is so gentle, it leaves my skin feeling super smooth and it’s generally comfortable even while its on. I like that it detoxes my skin while making it feel more supple (a rare feat) and it’s so affordable and gentle I could recommend it to anybody.
Yes to Grapefruit Pore Perfection Brightening Peel: This sounds a little scary, but I promise your skin won’t fall off! This peel smells fresh and makes my skin just ever so slightly cool and tingly. I find that exfoliating makes a big difference in my skin’s texture, and I even think it helps soak up other products better. Plus, this one is all-natural. A little goes a long way! I’ve been using this for nearly a year now, and I just love how it makes my skin look and feel — just a little brighter.
Origins Clear Improvements Mask: Origins makes beautiful masks for any skincare concern. My parents usually gift me a sample set of Origins masks at Christmas, so I’ve tried a lot of them. Out of Trouble, Drink Up, and Modern Friction are all great, but nothing quite compares to Clear Improvements. The original charcoal mask in my mind, this mask just sucks impurities out of my skin, making it feel clear and detoxed without any residual irritation or dryness. On my worst days, this is the mask I reach for, because it mattifies and purifies like no other.
Tea Tree Oil: I usually mix Tea Tree Oil (any brand will do, I’m currently using Trader Joe’s brand) with sweet almond oil and use it before my moisturizer at night. It helps keep my acne at bay, and it’s an amazing spot treatment for pimples. Plus, I love the eucalyptus-like smell.
