A summery makeup look with products from MAC, Colourpop, Dior, and more

Almost Summer

Almost Summer

I’ve been super busy this month, so I haven’t posted in a while. But here’s a summery going-out look I did a few weeks ago. I can’t remember everything I used, but I know the lips were a sample of MAC’s Creme de Nude (which […]

Black Radiance Brilliant Effects Lip Gloss Review & Swatches

Black Radiance Brilliant Effects Lip Gloss Review & Swatches

I bought two Black Radiance lip glosses at Target a few months back, because I was looking for glittery lip glosses to send me into summer. While I should probably just break down and purchase the famous Jouer Lip Topper in Skinny Dip, I saw the glitter and the price tag on these glosses and I was game to try them. Here is my Black Radiance Brilliant Effects Lip Gloss Review & Swatches.

I haven’t heard much about Black Radiance as a brand, but it appears to be targeted towards black women, which is wonderful as many makeup brands don’t provide adequate shade selection for deep skin tones (particularly drugstore brands). The brand is also cruelty free, which is fabulous.

I bought two neutral shades, Romantic and Star Struck. I prefer Star Struck to Romantic, because it it is a little more glittery. I have to say that, for the price, you get a decent product. While the actual gloss is a thick and goopy, it isn’t sticky. The glitter doesn’t feel gritty, though it also isn’t quite as reflective as I had hoped. The lip gloss has a fruity smell, which is unusual but not overwhelmingly unpleasant. These two colors are pretty alone or over a nude lipstick. I think that, as far as drugstore lip glosses go, I prefer my NYX Butter Gloss. However, the NYX Butter Glosses are not glittery, so if you are after a glittery look you may prefer the BR lip glosses. My only real problem with the Black Radiance lip glosses are the applicators. Instead of a doe foot, these lip glosses have a brush applicator, which can get frizzy and messed up after use. (Remember the Kylie lip gloss drama? They’re those applicators). Overall, I give these lip glosses a C: They’re comfortable, glossy, and sparkly. They do the job, but the applicator is odd and they aren’t anything special.

Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick: Review & Swatches

Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick: Review & Swatches

I’ve finally started to like liquid lipsticks; my initial experiences with liquid lipsticks, especially those that dry matte, were rather unfortunate. I once thought that liquid lipsticks were nothing more than a dry, crumbly mess, but I have come to like liquid lippies. While the […]

Nude Lipstick Edit

Nude Lipstick Edit

Nude lipstick is perfect for makeup fanatics and beginners alike, because of its versatility. Nude lips are always polish and lovely, and there are many shades of nude (from peachy tones to mauves) so they can be suitable for any skin tone. I have many favorites, and I plan on shopping for many more lips, but here are a few I have been loving as of late.

MAC Creme de la Femme: I use this lipstick constantly, paired with the MAC lip liner in Brave. It is a frost finish, but it appears only slightly shimmery on the lips. It not too glossy or flashy, but it isn’t totally matte. It’s lipstick, but it’s also just your lips but better. I adore it, and it’s my go-to mauve shade. I know I can rely on Creme de la Femme!

MAC Honeylove: Another MAC favorite is this true nude. It is beige (with a tinge of peach) but it doesn’t make my lips look dead. It is the perfect nude, because it can be spiced up with a gloss or toned down when worn alone. The matte finish is ever-chic (especially these days) and it’s another go-to.

NYX Lip Lingerie in Lace Detail: I adore this lipstick, and I plan on buying more Lip Lingeries in the near future. It’s the perfect matte liquid lipstick for me, because it doesn’t transfer but it doesn’t dry my lips out either. It’s slightly sticky, but I don’t notice it unless I press my lips together (which isn’t something I do naturally). It’s comfortable and flattering (a similar color to Honeylove), but I am so impressed by the formula and price that I know I’ll buy more as soon as they go on sale at Ulta!

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Sugar: I don’t wear this as often as I should, because it’s a lovely formula and it glides on easily. It’s a liquid lipstick, but it doesn’t dry down to a matte finish. It’s lightweight and subtle, and perfect for the non-lipstick-wearer. It’s very light, so I often layer it on top of other lipsticks (like ABH Pure Hollywood). I apply a deeper nude lip Pure Hollywood, with Melted Sugar on the center of my lips to produce a fuller effect. Easy to apply, easy to wear, and darling color. Too Faced is having a sale on their site right now, so I might seek out a few more shades.

Red Lip Colors for the Holiday Season

Red Lip Colors for the Holiday Season

Christmas is upon us, which means I can break out some of my favorite deep-red lips. Cherry red is lovely, but I leave that to the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Taylor Swift. I’m all about the deeper, darker, berry reds. I talked about two […]

Winter always dries out my skin, especially my hands and lips. To battle winter dryness, I often reach for my winter lip care favorites. Aquaphor: This is my favorite lip product of all time–nothing keeps my lips soft like this, and it can be used […]

Studded Kisses: Two Blood Reds for Fall & Winter

Studded Kisses: Two Blood Reds for Fall & Winter

I love deep reds. Honestly, I wear them proudly any time of year, but they are especially perfect for fall and winter. Two of my favorite reds are Studded Kisses: “Motorhead” Studded Kiss Lipstick by Kat Von D Cosmetics, and MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in “Studded Kiss.”

MAC Cosmetics Studded Kiss:

This lipstick is matte, and dryer than most MAC lipsticks because of it. I love MAC lipstick (as I’ve mentioned in a previous post), and this lipstick is no exception. I like that it is a deep brick red; it doesn’t have any purple undertones, which is very common for deep red lipsticks. The formula is great, the color is great, and it is my current favorite dark red.

Kat Von D Studded Kiss in Motorhead:

I love the color of this lipstick: a deep, purple red. However,  I would probably never re-purchase it because it is a really, really dry formula. You can use it over a lip balm, which helps, but it is the dryest non-liquid lipstick I have ever used. Color and pigmentation are excellent, but the formula is iffy. However, Kat Von D’s makeup is all vegan & cruelty free, so if that is important to you, this lipstick is probably just right.
