Almost Summer

Almost Summer

I’ve been super busy this month, so I haven’t posted in a while. But here’s a summery going-out look I did a few weeks ago. I can’t remember everything I used, but I know the lips were a sample of MAC’s Creme de Nude (which […]

Pressed Powder Face Off

Pressed Powder Face Off

Setting powder is a must-have for summer makeup, and a should-have for the rest of the year. I’m a dedicated liquid foundation wearer, but I find that the final step of applying a pressed powder makes my foundation last longer and look better throughout the day. I am currently loving two products, the bareMinerals bareSkin Perfecting Veil and the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, so I decided to compare the two in this Pressed Powder Face Off.

bareSkin Perfecting Veil: This product gives a true matte finish to the skin, which is part of why I like using it in summer. It is incredibly lightweight, but I don’t like applying it with the powder puff that comes with the veil. Instead, I opt for a large fluffy brush to apply it lightly all over my face. Despite its matte-finish, it is still very natural looking. It sets my makeup and gives me a smooth, velvety feeling on my skin. I would definitely repurchase this product.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural: I think that the key word here is “natural.” If the bareSkin Perfecting Veil is lightweight, this powder is weightless. It sets makeup without mattifying. While it makes foundation appear more matte than before, the skin still retains a very natural finish. My skin still has some dewiness to it, but my makeup is set. Win-win situation, right?

These pressed powders are equally great products, but for slightly different occasions. My skin runs on the moist side, so if I am living in a humid, hot climate, I am going to opt for the bareSkin perfecting Veil. However, once winter starts to dry my skin out, I see myself using the MAC Mineralize more often. If your skin is extremely oily, the bareSkin Perfecting Veil is probably more suitable, and inversely the MAC Mineralize is more appropriate for dry skin types.
