The Wet n Wild highlighters are probably the most sought-after drugstore highlighters. These highlighters, particularly the Precious Petals highlight, put Wet n Wild back on the map for me. A brand that formally represented the super-cheap makeup of my childhood suddenly became one of the the […]
Some people are raised on peanut butter and jelly, or fried chicken, or spaghetti. Others will say they were raised on rock ‘n’ roll or classical music. I was raised on MAC lipstick.
My love affair with MAC lipstick started at an early age—I got my makeup done at the MAC counter for the first time in middle school, because I was performing in theater productions and needed stage makeup. I suspect I had been sampling my mom’s MAC lipsticks long before that, though, so by the end of high school I had decided they were the greatest lipsticks on the market.
Are MAC lipsticks the end-all-be-all of lip products? I’m not sure, but I haven’t found any that I like more. MAC lipsticks are consistently great; granted, different shades and finishes wear differently (there’s just no way that a frosted lipstick is going to feel the same on your lips as a matte color), but they are all luxurious and long-wearing (especially when paired with one of MAC’s lip liners). MAC lipsticks are exceptional because they are just enough of everything; they last long, but they aren’t so long last-lasting that they are drying; they feel moisturizing, but they don’t feel so moisturizing that they dissipate in a matter of minutes; they are creamy, but not so creamy that they smudge all over the place. They are perfect paired with liners or gloss, or on their own. There are over 200 shades (and that’s just their normal lipsticks). I can’t speak to MAC’s liquid formula, but I love my classic MAC lipsticks for daily use or special occasions. They are only $17 per lipstick, which is cheaper than most of the brands at Sephora. Plus, with the Back to MAC program, you can get a lipstick for free at any MAC counter in exchange for any six empty MAC containers. I know I personally always find myself going back to MAC Whether I’m looking for a cute pink, a subtle nude, or a vibrant red, MAC lipsticks have never failed me.
